Honestly, I hadn’t even unpacked completely from our South Dakota trip until yesterday when I packed for this trip! After getting home, we quickly made a trip to San Antonio to see the orthopedic surgeon to check Amanda’s knee out. We were 50/50 if a call would come in for us to go to Houston, so we packed like we were. Or for me, I just took my bag as is, hoping I had clean undies in there! The call didn’t come in that we could go, so here we are a week later in Houston.
Amanda’s knee replacement is fine, and she just had some soft tissue damage from a fall when she fainted because of the high rate she was having. The surgeon thought it’d likely be a few more weeks before she’d be back and going well. It has been noticeable with her limping and significantly favoring it here lately. It impeded hiking on our trip, that’s for sure.
I was hoping to make this Houston trip during October as it would have worked out better for my work schedule. Typical with the railroad and schedules, it didn’t work out! This was a combined trip with Amanda’s neurologist appointment, though. She had her Botox treatment for migraines scheduled for Monday, so we were able to knock that out on the way up. It was getting time for the treatment; her headaches started creeping up, as they usually do, once close to the medication wearing off.
So, with about 50 injection spots all over her face, head, neck, and shoulders, we were off to Houston. She jokes, saying she was lumpy and is for a few hours afterward with bumps on her forehead. We made a mandatory stop at Buc-ee’s in Luling. It’s not summer or a weekend, so it wasn’t too busy. It’ll only improve when they finish construction at this new and largest Buc-ee’s yet. With some freshly fried potato chips and sugar-roasted pecans in hand, the next stop was Houston.
We stayed at a hotel affiliated with the one we typically stay at now, which is right across the street. After our stay at the Colorado Springs Marriott, with a good lounge dinner, we decided to try this one to save on dinner costs. There is attached self-parking for half the price of the valet, too; the other is valet only, or you can park at the hospital and walk. We made it just in time for the dinner to be put up as we walked in! Knowing this could happen, we already had an idea where we’d got to eat nearby. Poke, it was for dinner with a plate of lounge desserts in tow back to the room.
I knew I’d kill time by writing a post while Amanda had her CT and labs done this morning. I forgot to pack a small backpack for my Mac, so I grabbed Amanda’s new heart-covered backpack we bought in South Dak. I sported it confidently over to the hospital on my back. The street crossing to the opposing hotel didn’t seem problematic to access the sky bridge to the hospital until it was raining. Good thing it was a curly hair day for Amanda; she was still perturbed about the raindrops falling on her head; cue the song!
I have a load to unpack about the rejection issues, which I’ll cover in another post. It’s a lot to cover, and we really don’t know much. We won’t have answers to questions this trip either, not until the test results are back, at least. We don’t even see the doctor this time around.
