Let my people go!

Well we’re not out yet, close though! So Amanda’s is doing good but yesterday evening she started hurting because the nurse didn’t get her pain meds on time. I called the nurse to request the pain meds, she was at lunch and said she would send someone. She forgot and showed up about an hour later with the meds. Being so late the she wanted to pushed the other scheduled pain med back so they wouldn’t be to close together. By the time the other dose was due I reminded her to come by. About an hour and a half later the they showed for shift change and said they’d be right back with the medicine. We still waited another hour and a half before they came back! So the first round was an hour and half and the second was 3 hours late. Amanda was hurting, irritated, and not in a good mood. I excused myself to grab dinner at this point. The nurse had just got in the room with the pain meds right before I got back. Amanda had just unloaded on her about the meds being so late.
Even if you’ve only known Amanda for a short time you know this is uncharacteristic for her. Part of being a care taker is knowing when to stay and when to run, knowing when to talk and when to shut up. If you’ve only known me for a short time you know I still have a hard time with that last part! My timing has got better over the years on the first part. I’m glad I ducked in time to let the the nurse take the brunt of it!
The patient care here isn’t the best we’ve seen out of the hospitals we’ve been to. I know these nurses loads are pretty heavy and I’m sure they have to many patients at a time but waiting that long for pain medication is unacceptable. I’m way better at patient care than they are but I’m a little more invested in my patient!
Amanda’s bestie came by today all the way from San Antonio and stayed the morning and through lunch with us. It was good to spend time with her, we don’t see her enough. She came bearing gifts also. Coffee mugs filled with snacks galore. Her mother came in with the win though. Sending mini nerf guns one with Amanda’s name and one with my name. After the incident with nurse I think I’ll confiscate Amanda ammo though!
Thank you to everyone who has sent messages and texts to Amanda. She still hasn’t even felt like looking at her phone yet. It will be awhile before she feels like returning any messages or texts. Know she loves you all and she’ll get back with you when she’s feeling up to it.
We should be discharged soon. We had to wait what seemed like forever for the doctor to get a specific prescription pad to write the pain med prescription. Now just waiting to get discharged. You’ve never had your patiences tested until you’ve been discharged from a hospital. I was able to slip away and get my grip and snacks out of the hospital and to the hotel. Every thing is ready for Amanda’s arrival. I’ll just need to make a run to the pharmacy and we’ll be set. Amanda just had a real shower, is dressed, and ready to bust outta this joint.
