Hospital/Apartment Days

As I left the hospital last night, I’d planned to catch the train to the transit center. I heard it pull up when I was about halfway to the stop. If it weren’t for the cables in the middle of the road, I could have just hopped on the platform and made it. The following train was late, and I could have made it the other way on foot quicker, but it was in the opposite direction, so I just waited. When at the transit center, my bus showed three minutes out. I chatted with a younger guy for a while who was catching the same bus that worked at the NRG stadium. We talked much longer than the ticker’s three minutes had shown. Then I heard a run of expletives from a lady, the ticker had just jumped to 19 minutes. I checked Apple Maps, it showed another bus I wasn’t familiar with leaving in 2 mins. I hopped up and looked for it amongst the many stops. It was close by with the door already closed, but the diver let me in. I liked the route, and it was a closer walk to the apartment, but it only ran every 30 minutes.

I had been texting Amanda about my train and bus delays, and nothing, no response. I called her on my walk to the apartment, she had fallen asleep. Since she was a sleepy head, I didn’t give her the good news that the new route ran by a Chick-fil-A! When I arrived, I had a pile of boxes from the wish list at the door. I was oddly excited about a shower caddy, I had to keep chasing my soap all over the tub since the ledge has a little too much slope to it! I put that together, got a shower curtain up, assembled a hair dryer organizer, and hung the curtains since the command hooks had plenty of time to set. By that time it was well after midnight and I crashed. I planned to sleep in a bit, but I couldn’t. Then, I worked on a few other things at the apartment and headed to the hospital at lunchtime.

I started the day off working on the toilet, I’ll just leave all the jokes coming to mind alone! I had to put on a toilet riser. Then I tacked the bed. It took a while to put all the parts together. It was a tight fit in the bedroom but it will work. I’d brought up a couple narrow end tables that fit just right. It’s so close that one of the closet doors doesn’t open all the way. That’s not a problem since I made that one a box closet anyway. I’m a box hoarder, but that came in handy for moving, especially the TVs.

I had to make an Amazon return at Whole Foods, then another to UPS. I emailed the UPS store my label and was going to buy tape. At home, the UPS store won’t share their tape if it has to be in a box for a return. This clerk told me if it were for a return they’d tape it for me and not charge me for printing the label. So, that was a nice savings. I’d picked up sushi and some more snacks Amanda wanted, then, since I was already out, I drove to the hospital instead of taking the bus.

Earlier in the morning, Carley came by and said they’d stop the dopamine then and possibly stop the Bumex later today. As I walked in, Amanda said I just missed the new non-rounding transplant doctor. He wasn’t rounding with the team, but had just left the multidisciplinary rounds, where they take about different cases, so he wanted to stop by. He wanted to keep the Bumex drip another day, then just a push tomorrow, followed by oral Friday, and looking at a Saturday discharge. The extra day will give me a little cushion in getting things ready for Amanda’s arrival.

The doctor is with Methodist also, and mentioned that the doctor we were lined up to see there is good. He also said Dr. Nair was close with that doctor. Dr. Nair mentioned a direct transfer to Methodist, but he said they usually like to see you on an outpatient basis first. The new doctor said he would try to work on a transfer. I’m not sure how I feel about that. If it gets things done quicker, I’m all for it, but I don’t want to go over there just to spin our wheels when we could be at the apartment for a few days. I need Amanda to be there for a bit with me before I leave and start back to work, whether back home or out of San Antonio. I’m just ready to show off all my hard work and to show her the place; she still hasn’t seen it!

They called in 11 more Furoscix body infusers. The pharmacy wanted to deliver today between 6-10 pm, but I wouldn’t be there. They could drop it off, but with an expensive order like that, we had to sign a release, they cost $1,000 each, so a bag of 11 was a pretty good chunk of change. Thank goodness for insurance, we only paid $15. Since I was already in the car, I decided I’d just go get it, it was only a few miles away. A few city miles, that is, about 20 minutes away. I left early enough to beat the 5 o’clock rush but caught the 3 o’clock traffic.

When I arrived at the apartment, there were a ton of big boxes this time. A mattress box was not pushed against the wall and covered about 3/4 of the sidewalk. I was a bed in a box but still big; I’m sure our neighbors love us! I got everything in and proceeded to unbox it all, which took a while. I was feeling a little rough about the time I wanted to leave, I think it was a low blood sugar thing. I chilled for a bit and had a snack, then went to catch my bus. I was trying the same bus I used last night. It ran late and took a while to get to the transit center. I think I like the other one better. A passenger was asking the driver about a hotel. She was telling him about a hotel we were coming up on. I spoke up and told them it would be $500 with rodeo going. I don’t think they believed me, but he called, and it was $478! We all complained about the price and I advised where else for him to stay, but the choices were limited with his budget. He decided to stay with his sister, but he said she was a church-going lady with too many rules!
