Not the Typical Girls Trip

Hi, it’s Brittany again! Not exactly the Nashville Girls Trip Amanda and I would typically plan, but we’re enjoying it regardless! We’ve watched several rom-com’s (romantic comedy movies), chatted a lot (with the exception of Amanda feeling bad on Wednesday), and I even shopped for us a bit when I went on my afternoon walk on Wednesday.

If you’ve been following the blog you’ve likely heard about the cliche white boots! Well, they are plentiful here in Nashville. I walked into only one store to find a little prize for Amanda and what do you know… white boots for sale!

Maybe it’s the water, maybe it’s because we love an excuse to shop, maybe it’s because Barkley isn’t a fan of the white boots either and Amanda and I love to pick on him, but we’ve made a bestie pact that when Amanda feels better we will do a Nashville 2.0 Girls Trip with white boots included! Of course we have a stipulation, our white boots won’t be from Amazon – they’ll have to be the real deal. They’ll have to be leather boots – we are Texas girls after all and no true Texan would rock pleather boots made overseas. And we plan to add our own flare to them with a little customization: shopping + crafting = double win! If you’ve never heard of “girl math” that’s just a taste of it. Never, and I mean NEVER underestimate the trouble two best friends can get into – hospital room or not! ?

But in the meantime, while I was looking for a little gift for Amanda, (something that didn’t come from the hospital gift shop and something I knew she would like), I came across the most perfect necklace that adds to our inside joke, a cute little layered necklace with a white boot charm!

We also made time today to do other girls weekend things… I was able to brush and fix Amanda’s hair for her and give her a manicure. We spent most of the day chatting and waiting around to see if she would get squeezed in on the schedule for a biopsy. It’s kind of a bummer that Amanda had to be without food and water all day on the chance they will get her in for a biopsy. The biopsy department handles all of the outpatient cases first and then with time left over gets to work on the inpatient biopsy needs. We were waiting all day just to find out that she may have to do it all again the next day.

There is a farmers market in the hospital courtyard on Thursdays. Amanda was disappointed that she always seemed to have some procedure that required fasting on Thursdays, limiting her access to some of the mango gelato from the farmer’s market she was raving about. I am not easily deterred so I was determined to procure said mango gelato and then package it up with an official hospital label with her name on it and stash it in the freezer down the hall to be retrieved later that evening. I found the gelato stand but no mango on the menu. I inquired anyway and to my surprise he had 3 mango gelatos left (off menu). Mission success!

We waited around the rest of the afternoon and finally around 4:30 pm were told that the procedure was getting pushed to the next day. Poor Amanda fasted all day and she’ll have to do it again tomorrow. But on the bright side she could finally eat! I went out to get her some veggie dumplings and rice. Walked by another boutique and through the front window rows of white boots caught my eye. I may have nightmares of being chased by white boots tonight! They’re everywhere!

We wrapped up the evening with another chick flick and our gelato procured earlier in the day. Please continue to pray. It may also help to pray specifically for Amanda’s kidneys. The doctors said it can take some patient’s up to 3 months for their kidneys to wake up. Amanda has been 2 days without CRRT / dialysis and her bladder filled up enough today on its own. That’s a small step but a big win. She will likely have dialysis tomorrow and we hope to get the biopsy done as well. Hopefully she’ll be higher priority for that tomorrow since they didn’t get to her today.

Thanks again for all your love and prayers! ❤️
