After lunch, Amanda had to spill the beans. She’d planned a little something for my birthday. Our heart friends that live close by were bringing a cake for my birthday. Amanda had planned for them to have a hospital dinner date with us. They ended up being sick, though. That didn’t stop them from delivering the cake. They masked up, and Clorox wiped everything down and had it in the back of their SUV for me to grab! I had to let Tank out, so they just did a curbside drop-off at the hotel. It was good to see them, and I was sad we didn’t get to have dinner with them. Amanda wanted to see a picture, but it was taped shut, and I was going to carry it into the hospital, so I told her we would open it to celebrate getting in a room, too!
I took Tank out after I secured the cake. I found a good spot the opposite way I was used to going and was next to busy Main Street, but it had nice grass. The bad part of this hotel is that we have to cross Main Street to get to a potty spot. Tank isn’t used to the double-door elevators, so he was confused in the garage elevator when we rode up to get the snack bag I left there. Then, when we rode up in the hotel elevator, he stared at the back wall, thinking it would open!
Though Tank wasn’t as anxious anymore as Amanda was, she was done with the ER waiting game. The beds there weren’t comfortable, and we had no idea when we’d get out of there. The chair in there was terrible also. I wanted to put my bad leg up. My knee was hurting, and my leg was swelling, not as much as Amanda’s legs thought. The transplant doc rounding felt her leg and said she didn’t seem to be retaining. She had pitting edema in her leg, and a lot of the fluid had gone to her belly and hip area. I’m not sure he even really felt her leg that good.
The ER nurse came in to give Amanda some meds, and we talked to her for a while. I had just brought back a refresher, so we were talking about Starbucks and our favorite drinks. Then she told us all about the snowstorm and how she was staying over in the hospital. We chatted with her for a while. She said we had a room on the floor and were just waiting for it to be cleaned.
Not long after, she came in, ready to take us up to our room. 24 hours in the ER waiting for a room! It was funny when we came out of the elevator, and I was pointing the way. All the odds are on one side and the evens on the other. She laughed and said she never remembered which way to go. After we got settled, I made a dinner order. Then, ran to feed and let Tank out. Once comfortable, I guess he was making up for lost time on potty runs. He wouldn’t eat before but was hungry after we came back from our potty run. I did hear one woof as I left this time, but it didn’t go on long.
I made it back to the hospital just in time to grab our dinner order. While I was gone, Amanda’s toilet overflowed and ran everywhere. There wasn’t another room to move here to either. Maintenance finally came by, and a very happy maintenance man whistled and hummed while he plunged the toilet. I’d like to strive to be more like that man, unbothered by his nasty task at work. Afterward, they called housekeeping to clean the floor, but they seemed to be taking their time.
We had dinner from a veggie-heavy place. I had a plate of sides plus an extra side of potatoes, and Amanda had a salad. After dinner, I waited to dig into my cake for the nurse to come in. She never came, so I got the cake out; that’s all it took to summon her. So I put things away, and then we had cake when she left! It was much better than the fortune cookie, which was my birthday cake in Austin 12 years ago that Facebook reminded me about this morning! Not only did our friend get the cake, but she also got all the supplies: a cake serving set, plates, napkins, forks, numbers, and a lighter. Amanda threatened me if I lit the candle, fearing another paging Dr pyro incident!
I left with enough time to make it to Target to grab my Ring camera at curbside pickup. We haven’t done so many curbside pickups since COVID! I returned and took Tank out one on the last potty run. Let me just say it was good that we got some poo bags in our Walmart order on the way up! Tank made a friend on our walk. A lady, maybe a younger homeless lady or a student, I couldn’t decipher which one, said hi to Tank as we walked by. I could tell she wanted to talk to him on the way back, so I stopped. She asked for his name and if he had ever had a steak. I replied sometimes. Then she told me to get that boy a steak! I had a step for the car delivered today as well. So, I set that up for a Tank on the bed when we returned. I also set up the travel router so the ring camera would work. Now we can spy on him while we are gone! He isn’t anxious tonight but very clingy, putting his head on my Mac while I type!
Looks like the late arrival to the floor stunned the Soliris infusion. It wasn’t even in the queue; I guess tomorrow is the day. That will put us here another night and maybe Amanda another night in the hospital. I don’t understand why we can’t get the treatment on another floor. Or why we can’t just wait for a room in our hotel room? I hope the treatment is early in the morning so Amanda can get out and stay a night with Tank and I, if she feels good enough.
