Back to Houston Once More

I had a good trip back from Alpine but was late getting off; too late to drive to Houston, though. That is one thing that will make it easier when I make a seniority move to make trips from San Antonio to Houston. My engineer suggested I use my repurposed air mattress topper and blow it up in the back of the Yukon to nap on when I get off after long trips and I’m too tired to drive the whole way. Not a bad idea, I told him! Once home, I packed up and got everything in the car ready to go, so all I had to do was roll out of bed, put my clothes on, and go. Tank was sad while I packed and was whining, so he snuggled up on my chest when I didn’t leave. I got to sleep around 3:30 am with a 7 am alarm set, just enough sleep to keep me alert all day and not drive off in a ditch!

Amanda called on the way up to update me. The team came by and said her BMP was high, so they would start the diuretics back. A Bumex push was ordered shortly after. I had a good trip up, but the traffic was thick for a Sunday. Amanda reminded me about the upcoming holiday, so that made more sense. I didn’t go around San Antonio, but I should have; I think I’m done with the usual route and about to scrap it all together. I came into Katy and took a couple of toll roads to skate some traffic on I-10. That may be my new route; it was quicker and had less traffic. I’ve already ordered a Txtag for the Burb so I can be flexible when coming back and forth from the hotel.

The renal doctor had come by and said he was good with the cardio team’s decisions. When I arrived, my first stop was, you guessed it, Starbucks. Amanda wanted a refresher and a falafel wrap. I went in with both backpacks on my front and back. A lady in the elevator told me I looked like I’d been hiking, and I said I had, from the parking garage! Amanda hadn’t voided much, and the nurse was worried and dug the bladder scanner out of a closet to see if Amanda was making any urine. It’s a doppler that estimates how much is in the bladder. Amanda had a little in there but not much, so the nurse called the team. They ordered more Bumex, and it started to work not long after. Seems the kidneys are going to be a pain, and the fluid retention will be a constant battle.

The day nurse was nice and had an accent that didn’t match what you would think she’d look like. She was newer to the floor but seemed to know her stuff well. I hope we get her again. The renal doctor told Amanda not to be so conservative with drinking to help wake her kidneys up. That was permission to drink more refreshers in Amanda’s eyes! She cashed the one I’d brought in and didn’t even leave much for me. The nurse was happy to see it go through her quickly, too!

I was perusing Uber Eats for a place to eat dinner and saw a BOGO deal on a particular salad. So we ended up ordering it from Mendocino Farms. They were good, but a little too romainey for me and a little too kaley for Amanda. It would have been too hard to swap those around, though! What we saved in money and calories, we spent on donuts later in the evening. Amanda had a few bites, but they were primarily for me; they are the equivalent of Amanda’s fires! She was happy to see a heart-shaped donut I ordered!

We played a few rounds of Uno Flip, which Rhonda had brought up. I obliterated Amanda in the first five games, but she came back from behind with a couple of high-scoring hands to beat me! After my whooping, I was ready for bed and was lights out from a little after ten until the hospitalist woke me up a little after eight. I had a lot of sleep to catch up on.
