Great Start

We were up early to get ready and load the car, we hadn’t loaded a thing up the night before. We ended up having our out of town friends crash on our couches, our spare bedrooms aren’t done yet. Well actually their old couches we bought from them when they moved! The dogs were excited about the company, Tank was prancing all around yesterday morning wanting to go wake them up. He was also excited thinking he was going to go with us! I tried to explain this wasn’t a trip he was going on because his bag wasn’t packed but he didn’t understand till we shut the door in his face and left! Our usual dog sitter is actually house sitting this trip, staying with them since we’ll be gone so long.
We had breakfast before we left with Amanda’s brother and his friend. Got to chat with some other friends as they headed out on their own getaway, then we hit the road. Amanda was fading by the time we got close San Antonio, we’d planned to stop at Starbucks to meet up with a few people but everyone had prior engagements so we’re shooting to catch them on the way home. All were old high school friends so it would be neat to get everyone together and see each other even if for a few minutes. The coffee was just the fix to keep us going.

We weren’t but a couple minutes behind the time I said we’d be there but swinging by an unfamiliar spot to get cheap gas put us a little behind a bit rolling into Luling to meet up with a couple and their kidos whom we adore. I’d planned dinner out with one of Amanda friends she met years ago in a pacemaker group online. She’s been a good friend and seen us many times on Houston trips. It was a great night with her and her husband whom we’ve not met. We ate at a new place we’d not tried before, the nearly 4 hour dinner was filled with non stop conversation and laughter. There’s a special bond with people that have been through the type of things we have. As husband caregivers there were so many similarities in our stories. I think it was what we both needed as couples, the perfect start to our trip as well.

As we were driving away from the restaurant I asked Amanda if she knew what was close. It took her a minute but she got it, one of our favorite ice cream places. For a fleeting moment we questioned should we get any, followed with well we are on vacation. Then we both got bowls, sat in the car with the seat heaters on and ate our ice cream since we were both freezing. As we left Amanda was saying now I need something savory, there just so happen to be a late night taco joint we liked right there. It took little convincing to have nite cap tacos!

We’re up early to catch a beach sunset tonight and we also have a photo op at a traffic light with a heart painted on the light box, we’ve been trying to get this photo for a while now. We combine ideas we had but need props, we’re making a quick Target run because surprisingly everything in the city closes at 11. We’re up earlier than planned to make the shot work before we leave but didn’t factor in the part where the sun actually needs to be up to make it happen first. So that gave me a little extra time to finish this post since I fell asleep hard while writing last night having to search for my phone buried in the covers when I woke!
