Well Amanda had a good night and still isn’t in much pain. When I got here she had already been up and walked a bit. Her back is still sore but better and she didn’t mention her neck hurting to bad. She said she got a little sleep but is still sleepy, sleep is never good in hospitals. We once had a night nurse that would come in turn all the lights on and make Amanda get out of bed to check weight at 3am, I didn’t wish good things for that mans life! I don’t think last night was that kind of night for her.
So my phone bit the dust yesterday, thanks Apple for making such a great product that craps out every 12-15 months with the same issue. This will make my 5th 6plus it may be time to upgrade. I am able to make calls and text via my iPad though, I just can’t catch the incoming calls. I planned on being here earlier but the iPad alarm didn’t work the same as my iPhone. I’m the set two alarms let them both snooze at least once kinda guy, turns out once you touch a button on the iPad alarm it doesn’t go back off. I woke up and saw it was just barley daylight and freaked out, I jumped up throw my clothes on, called for the valet to have the car ready, bolted for the hospital.
I didn’t miss the doctors visit thank goodness but did miss the shift change with the nurses. Hopefully we really will get out of here by noon like the doctor mentioned yesterday. There’s nothing more frustrating than waiting to get out of the hospital, especially after the doctor says you can go but waiting for the nurses to get the paperwork ready. I know it’s a lot of work for them but I’m always over here like let my people go! There’s been a few time where we almost just packed up and left on our on, once we hit the 5-6 hour mark after the doc says go I get a petty antsy.
To be honest things are going much better than I had anticipated. I think we can contribute that to God and everyone’s prayers. We’ve had so many bad experiences lately with surgeries I keep waiting for the ball to drop. I was amazed that 1 the surgery went so quick and 2 that Amanda wasn’t in pain when I got back to see her. Her stent procedure was less complicated took double the time and she was in serious pain when she came to from sedation. I don’t miss that at all, the worst for me is going back to see her in so much pain and being able to do absolutely noting about it. I’ve been thinking we would need to stay an extra day but I’m feeling like we may actually come home tomorrow now.
Thanks everyone for your continued prayers for us. I want to continue to be amazed by how good she is doing so keep the prayers up.
We’re out
So we’re out and in the hotel room already. Yay! Earlier this morning a tech came in to do an echocardiogram (a sonogram of the heart to check blood flow and pressures). Amanda has had hundreds of echos it seems like, this one was a little more thorough than most, he did a regular style also checking the heart walls, then moved on to check the sounds for flow with a different device, and also used a dye to highlight the blood flow better. The tech was a nice older gentleman who I had a great conversation with. He was very informative about everything he was doing.
This was an odd stay at the hospital, it’s usually a few days and I always stay the nights. I didn’t know where anything was on our floor, we weren’t even there long enough for me to find the ice machine (Amanda loves her some crushed ice) or the snacks the usually have hidden!
I now know why it cost so much for surgeries. As I was headed down to get breakfast I overheard a nurse commenting on a surgeons new silver Ferrari and how she liked his red one better! He proceeded to to explain how the lines were so much eloquent on this one compared to the old one, first world problems I guess!
So I take back what I said about discharges, when the doctor said 10-noon he meant it! This was the fastest discharge ever. He came in, with his personal nurse in tow, at 10:15 talked to us for a bit then checked his other patients. He came back a little later gave us some discharge paperwork of his own and the hospital nurse was in within 20 minutes to go over the hospital paperwork and take all of Amanda’s IVs out. We were in the hotel by 11:45, it was awesome to be out so fast.
Amanda’s still not feeling much like eating, she hasn’t even drank much Dr. Pepper this morning. I think her throat is still sore from all the tubes. I’m going to run across from the hotel and grab some lunch in a few for myself. Hopefully Amanda will feel like eating something tonight. I’ll use my Google Fu later find some places with good soup, maybe that will be easier for her to eat.
A warm afternoon
Amanda is doing good just tired, the walk up to the room wore her out. She got a good nap in but woke up because she got a little hot, our AC went out. I called the front desk and ask them to send maintenance man up, I wasn’t interested in moving rooms we’ve already don’t that once. They said the city cut the water off and turns out the AC runs off water. It was off for an hour or so but still wasn’t cooling great.
I eased off to get a prescription for antibiotics and some dinner after Amanda was sleeping again. I couldn’t find any great places with soups close by so I settled on Panera Bread. If you know me you know this shows great love for Amanda, me eating a sandwich for dinner! I did have a grand plan to fill the prescription right across from the French bistro we ate lunch at the other day. I figured I’d grab a few pastries, that didn’t work out so well they had summer hours and we’re closed. So I had to settle for some inferior Panera pastries!
When I returned I realized the AC still wasn’t working as it should. I called again, maintenance showed up and worked on it for 45 minutes or so. It seems to be working better now. I got a bread bowl for Amanda, she ate a good bit. When done she mentioned she didn’t know eating was so tiring! She still a little weak and needs help in and out of the bed also.
She just started coughing a little earlier and is in a good bit of pain. She doesn’t look great right now, she said her heart is beating hard and feels like it’s bouncing off her chest. Hopefully she’ll get to feeling better. I was thinking we were coming home tomorrow but if this continues we won’t go anywhere. Please pray the pain will subside and she can get a good nights sleep.
