Houston Check-in

Amanda seems to have gotten worse, well, a worse symptom. Sunday night, as I was driving home, she called me. Her voice told me something was wrong; she asked if I was close to home. She’d fainted in the closet, not hitting her head but twisting the new knee around a bit. This was one time her messy closet paid off with a lot of cushioning to land on! It wasn’t necessarily an actual loss of consciousness but a temporary blackout. She’s fine with a sore hip and knee but otherwise unscathed. This is concerning nonetheless.

I know it may seem scary, but sadly, this is not new to us with syncope episodes. We’ve walked this road before, come out the other side, and know we’re in God’s hands no matter the outcome. We’ll get through this hiccup just as we have others.

We planned on leaving before lunch for Houston, but that didn’t go as planned; Amanda decided to have a mani-pedi party that took a while. We met a friend for coffee in Uvalde before we made the trek to Houston. I figured we’d make the drive, skipping lunch; I’m trying to be good and still lose my funeral weight. However, I didn’t confirm this with Amanda; her coffee was wearing off, and a hangry session could set in, so we stopped for some quick Taco Bell bean potato burritos.

The hardest decision of the day was where to eat dinner. We had three options laid out. Amanda nixed the healthy one quick. She was wanting a something bad for us before we crack down next week until our heartiversary trip. We settled on a costal Mexican restaurant we love, even though we didn’t eat anything from off the coast it was great! This is a great place from a restaurant group we love. All of their menus have plenty of plant based options with a few having separate dedicated plant based menus. We’ve been to the majority of all the restaurants in the group but still lack a few, they’re on the list though.

We wheeled in the hotel a little later than anticipated with the longer dinner. I’d wanted to grab take out and just head to the room but that was vetoed. We promptly hopped in bed to turn in early but with a movie playing it didn’t work so well. I ventured down a google rabbit hole so I was up late. I was researching all things South Dakota for our upcoming trip which lead to me looking at driving times for a trip I’m planning 3 years from now!
