Light at the end of the tunnel

After I got to the room last night, I didn’t leave until after lunchtime today. I just lounged around in the hotel robe, which was about mini skirt length on me! I had two showers and shaves; I was refreshed for sure. Brittany stayed until the afternoon, so I was off duty for a coffee run and lunch both. She was a good fill-in for hopping on conversations with nurses and doctors when needed. She even made friends with my buddy, Dennis, at StarBs. When I left for lunch, a valet recognized me and said, “Hey bro, how are you doing? Then, as I left to go back to the hospital, an HPD officer, who looks like he is a freshman in high school, recognized me too and met me with a big hello and a fist bump. I felt pretty popular!

It was good to have a break, not from Amanda but from the hospital and caretaking for a minute. This isn’t our first time like this; mostly before, it was a lot of caretaking at home. Where I needed to help her every time she was up and with daily living. So, for the most part, I’m just the step-and-fetch-it boy and mean to nurses and doctors when needed. We aren’t the kind of couple that goes off and does our own thing away from each other; we do everything together. I am away with work a good bit, and I think a little away time like that is good for us sometimes.

While I was getting ready, Amanda texted that Brittany saw the cardiologist down the hall. He was easy to spot for her; he is the little person. I told her I didn’t think I could make it, but he had already come and gone by the time she responded. He wanted to restart the diuretic. She had gained 10 pounds in the last 3 or 4 days since they last weighed her. Her palpitations were strong, and he mentioned they might increase the beta blocker if the diuretic didn’t help. It turns out the extra-long diuretic holiday was a bad idea.

On my way over, I picked up a couple of refreshers for the girls. When I walked in, the barista recognized me and said I’m finishing up your order now. On the way up, a lady in the elevator said someone was getting spoilt. Well, ma’am, I started that when we were teenagers and past the point of no return long ago! When I got to the room, the girls were finishing a Netflix series, a Lifetime-type movie. They were yelling and carrying on about what the characters should do; I ended up joining in by the end of it!

The cardio team said we could leave when we were ready. We needed to try some oral pain meds; this is what we have been battling with the hospitalist. They finally got the medication we’d asked for, but they didn’t have the dosage. So they moved her back to the original, the one that doesn’t work as well. Then, back to the other but liquid form, and then back again. She ended up taking the one that didn’t work that well just to see. Then they changed it again to the one we wanted but a higher dose! We’re hoping an alternating dose of the new and the other will do the trick to get us out of here, tomorrow is the plan.

We had Thai food for dinner. It ended up being too spicy for Amanda, so she picked around and ate a little. We also had a fried eggplant appetizer, so she was able to eat that. However, with Solaris messing with her, she thinks we need to stick to a little more bland food for a while. It will be easier when I get home since I’ll be cooking.

I have a follow-up on my foot in the morning. Hopefully, we’ll be out of here after that. Usually, we like to stay a night after, but with the motions we’ve been going through, I think we’ll be okay going home. That said, if we don’t get out of here by 3 p.m., we will stay over in the hotel and come home the following day.
