This one will be short and sweet; I’m tired and ready for bed! I went to work at a reasonable time this morning. My phone rang just before 7, and I had to report an hour and a half later. I had a horrible first trip back after being gone so long. Our train was a slow one, 15 mph uphill, and most of the trip is uphill! It took nearly 12 hours to make it to Alpine, 220 miles away. It was a long day. We aren’t allowed to get on our phones while the train is moving, or even read a book, so going so slow for so long can be boring. I also didn’t get to talk to Amanda since we only stopped once and where I didn’t have great cell service.
They didn’t start Amanda’s new medication yet and want to see if the Bumex could get the job done. They gave her a considerable IV push, then up the continuous drip. Amanda said that even after all of that, she had only been up twice to go to the bathroom. So it seems like it’s not working as they’d thought. She sat up in the chair to see if that would get things going like yesterday, but no luck.
Sitting up did make her nauseous, though. She asked for some meds and got back in bed. Curled up in as much of a fetal position as she could get with her fluid-filled legs and belly, the nurse was worried about her and asked if she was ok. She just got a salad and some veggies from the cafeteria and ordered Uber for dinner. The nurse yesterday said she’d seen some drivers deliver to the room before when I asked if they’d get an order from the front desk. Amanda said she was naughty and ordered an unhealthy but still plant based dinner. She put in an Uber Eats order from a food truck with delivery instructions that she was a patient and couldn’t come get it. Thankfully, the driver made it all the way to her room.
Tomorrow, a Houston friend will come by to bring Amanda lunch and stay with her for a bit. I’ll stay overnight here in Alpine and then catch a train back home in the morning. I’ve pretty much decided just to stay home tomorrow night and leave early Monday morning. I’ll likely get home in the late afternoon or early evening, and I still need to pack a few things. I don’t want to drive up after working all day just to go straight to sleep when I get there. It’ll be nice to have a second at home before I head back, too.
