Waiting, the name of the game.

Never be in a hurry at a hospital! We were told to be at the hospital at 7am for a 9:15 procedure. Amanda was initially taken back quickly for vitals and lab work, I wasn’t able to go back about 45 minutes later. I met our cardiologist this morning as he was coming out of the elevator, just before I went back. So I thought she might be taken back right away since he was already here. I was mistaken, she wasn’t taken for the cath till almost 3 though.

Amanda was in a small room with 2 beds with a senior lady in the opposite bed. She was a sweet soul along with her husband. They mentioned she was gonna my back for a cath and asked what Amanda was going back for, I explained for the same but also her 4th open heart tomorrow. The husband then quickly asked if he could pray with us which was welcomed. They had been and seemed to still be faithful servants of the Lord. We had much in common with them both despite the age difference. Swapping favorite bible verses and testimonies the time passed quickly for an hour or so until the nurses took them back for her cath. It was a nice change of pace to have a couple we talked with, for the most part not to many are very talkative from our experience.

Then we waited and waited and you guessed it we waited a little more. I get a little restless when the chairs aren’t to comfort. Amanda says I’m a bit like a pet coon, I get into everything. I paced all around the room, checked all the cupboards, the blood pressure cuffs, and turned the oxygen on and off etc. Amanda always acts like they will arrest me if I’m caught rummaging through things while we wait but it hasn’t happen yet!

I’m ready to talk with the doctor once they are done with the cath. I would really like to convey the importance of bringing on Amanda’s electrophysiologist, the pacemaker doctor, on board. We already requested that the surgeon contact him but I just want to confirm. He had some specifics he wanted done if they are to open the pacemaker pocket. We both like this electrophysiologist, he is to the point, even a bit uncouth. He tells it like it is and even drops some four letter words now and then! Honestly at least we know he’s not putting on a show and that’s a breath of air.

Amanda’s still back for the cath now but they should be done soon. We did get confirmation they would take us to a room once the cath is finished. Hopefully we will get to see both the cardiologist and the surgeon later this evening and get the plan that they have come up with.
